About Dr. Aum Kotwal

Dr. Aum M. Kotwal is a practicing advocate with over a decade of experience before the High Court of Gujarat and the Supreme Court of India. He has represented prominent political leaders including Shri Arvind Kejriwal, AAP National Convenor (Former CM, Delhi) and Shri Sanjay Singh, Member of Rajya Sabha in various high-profile matters.

A doctorate in law, Dr. Kotwal with academic achievements to his credits, serves as the Vice-President of the Legal Cell of the Aam Aadmi Party, Gujarat. He has been at the forefront of several legal and political battles that seek to uphold the constitutional values of justice, equality, and democratic participation.

In addition to political advocacy, Dr. Kotwal has played a significant role in various Public Interest Litigations (PILs). His PIL work includes matters concerning the rights of undertrial prisoners, matters in the interest of students, public health and equitable public resource allocation. His efforts have contributed to several urgent concerns, the likes raised during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Dr. Kotwal has also represented foreign nationals in Indian Courts including the Supreme Court of India for protection of their human rights enshrined under the Constitution of India. He has appeared for many multinational corporations and is empanelled with various semi-government entities.

Combining rigorous legal practice with grassroots political engagement, Dr. Kotwal brings a rare blend of courtroom advocacy and ideological clarity. His academic contributions include his publications and the books authored by him. Dr. Kotwal is also the Founding Partner of Kotwal Associates Advocates, an Ahmedabad based litigating law firm.

Dr. Kotwal was born on 30 August 1989 in India. He pursued formal legal education and later completed a Doctorate in Law, focusing on regulatory institutions and public governance. His Ph.D. thesis is archived on Shodhganga.

In the field of arbitration, Dr. Kotwal represented parties like Malani Engineering Services, which involved complex questions relating contractual interpretation. He is also extensively engaged with urban development authorities and is empanelled with the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA), and Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC). He regularly appears in matters concerning town planning matters involving urban development regulations, and municipal disputes.

Dr. Kotwal has handled significant political representations, including matters for Arvind Kejriwal, Former Chief Minister of Delhi, and Sanjay Singh, Member of Parliament. His practice further includes corporate and industrial litigation, with involvement in cases concerning prominent entities such as Suzlon, Pipavav Shipyard, and Alcock Ashdown. He has also appeared in litigation connected with the high-profile RTI dispute relating to the educational degree of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Additionally, Dr. Kotwal has substantial experience in land, revenue, and stamp law, covering land-revenue matters, tenancy and agricultural land disputes, and stamp duty and valuation issues under the Indian Stamp Act.
